Sony removes PSP ad from “inappropriate location”

Sony has been forced to remove a poster which advised consumers to “Take a running jump” from tram and train stations across the country after transport staff expressed safety concerns.

I don’t know what it is about games companies, but they seem singularly incapable of coming up with decent advertising. Okay, this isn’t quite as good as some of the more spectacular Acclaim efforts, but it’s still pretty retarded – although I have to say that the poster advertising “Strong Language And Sexual Content Here” on a bus stop in front of some tower blocks in Whalley Range is probably quite accurate, although possibly not for the reasons Sony intended.

Even I was not immune: Empire decided, in their wisdom, that they’d advertise our port of Virtua Tennis to the PC by recreating that picture of a tennis player scratching her arse using an apparently famous porn star (who we never discovered the identity of) and the strapline: “Makes other tennis games look a**e!” Yeah, thanks guys. That’s really classy. No, seriously.
