Payday Whisky

It’s payday! I have no[1] whisky! Recommend me something!

(for reference, I am of the opinion that there is very little on the planet that tastes nicer than Talisker 10 year – although I’m contemplating an Ardbeg this time round; I like big smokey peaty flavours)

[1] Well, I say no whisky. I actually have about 1/3 of a bottle of cask strength Aberlour and several bottles of Various Things with a shot or two left in, but most of them hold vague sentimental value and I don’t want to finish them off.

I’ve had a 30 year old Macallen in this location. You can’t beat that.

I’m not that big a Talisker fan, but if you want to try something different try some Woodford Reserve. I know I know, it’s a burbon. Trust me it’s realy rather tasty.

I’m teetotal myself, but the friends whose opinions I trust rate the Speyside and Islay whiskies most highly, in general. They like Talisker, so their tastes might not be so different from yours.

Specific ones I remember their being enthusiastic about – and my spelling probably sucks – include Bowmore, Ardbeg, Auchentoshan, Laphroaig, Glenfarclas and Lagavulin.

I’m afraid talking about auchentoshan in any kind of positive way invalidates anything you ever have or will say. Bad luck 🙂
