Today marks the end of Microsoft’s extended support for Windows 98/ME and with it (hopefully; dear God please let it be so) the official end of the DOS-based Windows line. End of an era, but I’m not sad to see it go; nasty, nasty operating system.

RIP Win98, we knew you well (and cursed you frequently).
DOS itself isn’t all bad though, it’s just MS-DOS that really sucks in conjunction with a graphical interface (or something).
Yeah, DOS itself was fine, in its own way. Bolting a GUI on top of it wasn’t such a great idea, though – you need to do your task switching and memory protection at a lower level than all that and DOS simply doesn’t provide for it.
