As Nayf astutely noticed, the picture below (a) was taken in a church and (b) features yours truly adorning a rather fetching black hairband whilst screaming down a microphone. The combination of the two probably warrants an explanation of some sort.
A friend of mine works for a church in Congleton as a youth worker type person; she’s been working for the past [x] weeks on organising a sort of youth night thing, aiming to be more relevant to the black-hoodie clad moody teenagers who sit at the back of the church being rebellious and surly that the traditional Anglican liturgy. As a part of this, she decided to get a band to play at the end of the evening, and that band ended up featuring me on vocals/rhythm guitar.
All things considered, we didn’t do too badly, either: the selection of songs (Green Day, Blink 182, Offspring, Nirvana, Postman Pat) went down well with the kids and, despite my throat giving out halfway through I Believe In A Thing Called Love, we even got some compliments from the parents. Not bad, we’d only actually rehearsed as a full band for about 6 hours, and only 3 of those were with a drummer (although fortunately Greg is probably the best rock drummer I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing with, so that wasn’t really a huge problem). I’ve decided it was about time Naomi learnt to use my camera (as she’s going to be helping me out when I do the wedding photography for a friend in a couple of weeks) so I gave her a roll of film and told her to use it taking photos of us playing. So, that’s the explanation.
What?
Oh, right. The hairband. Well, y’see, it keeps my hair out of my eyes. Plus, the kids thought it was cool. Well… they said it was… Hm. Have I been duped? Bugger.
Just out of shot you will find a PS2 running Singstar… right?! 😉
