Brief love affair

It is with deep regret that I must announce the end of my short love affair with the Renault Megane. I was captivated by her good looks and continental charm, but having finally plucked up the courage to take her out on a test drive, I quickly discovered that the surface charms give way to a fairly plain, and occasionally slightly unpleasant character underneath. She takes some time to get going, and then is over-eager to stop when the brakes are applied. She’s not terribly comfortable to be in, and whilst her additional bells and tassles are initially impressive, at the end of the day they just get in the way and fail to distract you from the fact that, ultimately, she’s not really all that impressive.

My affections have now found a new home in the Ford Focus Edge, which is a much plainer, simpler mistress than the Megane, but much, much more fun to drive and a much better all-rounder.

Good decision, mate. You can’t really go wrong with a Ford these days (or a Honda). So will you be purchasing the Focus Edge? Plenty of room for carrying / attaching watersports equipment! 🙂

When I say ‘attaching’ I mean as in a roof rack, or similar. I wasn’t trying to suggest you attach water wings to the vehicle, or a large inflated, black donut. Heh heh.

My experience of cars is limited to the ones I learnt to drive in (never ever drive a Corsa, ever) and my dad’s big white Toyota estate. Which has a new clutch, and can therefore do wheelspin in 1st gear. 😀

Not a brand new Focus, I hope (or should I say bland new)? The styling on Fords has really gone down the pan recently. It’s as if they’ve decided the slightly funky designs were alienating too many people so they’ve sacked the design team and got an old lady to tweak the existing Focus to make it blend in with the background. Yawn.

My new fancy is the Citroen C4. And not just because of that awesome tv advert, either.

Not the new Focus, no – that’s not due out until January, anyway. And yes, the Focus *is* a dull car to look at now, but it’s not actually unpleasant, and it’s really quite a brilliant drive. And all the extras on the Edge make for very good value for money.
