Voyueristic time-wasting

So, Trav showed me a little OS X screensaver that pulled images from a bunch of random webcams around the net and showed you them, and I found this curiously fascinating. An hour or two with Visual C# later and I have a Windows version.

You can get it here; just download the .exe and run it. It needs at least the .NET Framework 2.0, but if you’re running Vista or a recent and up-to-date version of XP you should have this. It apparently also works with a recent version of Mono on Linux or OS X, but I’ve not personally tested it, so I offer no guarantees. It’s virus-free so far as the latest version of AVG knows.

It only updates the image once every 2 seconds – so when you click next, prev or random, you’ll have to wait for it to update before you see the new cam. Also, it doesn’t do any checking on the URLs you type in yourself, so if you put something dumb in there, at best it won’t work and at worst it’ll crash.

My favourite is the Manatee Cam: http://24.227.51.158/jpg/image.jpg?r=.

Well that has just relieved about 10 minutes of boredom at work.
